Dolpo, also known as Hidden Valley resides beyond the Himalayas. Upper Dolpo Trek conjures up visions of mysterious monasteries, snow leopards and blue sheep. Dolpo region is reputed for the isolated high Himalayan valleys across northern Nepal; Dolpo is the home to one of the last remnants of traditional Tibetan culture. It’s also the place where the Oscar Nominated movie Caravan was made.  Dolpo is a perfect blend of rustic villages, a culture that backs to 1000 years ago, and drastic landscapes. Besides the alluring beauty and fascinating culture; Dolpo is a restricted area and invites only a few visitors, but it leaves a permanent impression on those people.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU

As soon as the airplane lands, you’ll sense the beginning of the adventure. Our representative will be at the airport to greet you and escort you to the hotel. Savor the taste of the hustle and bustle in Kathmandu, where everyone would seem busy but never too busy to greet you with a smile. In the evening, we will brief about the itinerary and later we will go for a nice dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel;

DAY 2: KATHMANDU TO NEPALGUNJ

After breakfast, we drive to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj City lies in the Terai region of Nepal, which is plain lands; interestingly mountain country has plain lands too! Nepalgunj is very close to the Indian border and the Bardia National Park. Indian culture highly influences the people and culture here. Overnight at the hotel;

DAY 3: NEPALGUNJ TO RUPGAD (2070M, 6KMS, 3 HOURS)

We will take a brief 35 minutes flight to Juphal. Juphal is the starting point for our trek, from Juphal we hit the road and commence the trekking. The trail descends and skirts through local villages. We start our trek as we walk downhill by the river at Suli gad ghat (2050m). Overnight at Rupgad;

DAY 4: TREK TO CHEPKA (2970M, 16KM, 6/8 HOURS)

From Rupgad, we head towards Chepka by following the trail that goes along the Suli Gad River. We skirt numerous villages including Jyalhasa; Temporary winter settlement for the people of Dolpa and their cattle. Stay Overnight at Chepka;

DAY 5: TREK TO SANDUWA VILLAGE (3600M, 12KM, 6/7 HOURS)

Leaving Chepka, we hit the trail to Sanduwa; we cross rivers many times this day. The trail ascends to narrow gorge through lush forests of bamboo and conifer. The valley-wide opens at the village of Renje beyond which the trail climbs upwards further to reach Samduwa. Stay Overnight at Sanduwa;

DAY 6: TREK TO PHOKSUNDO LAKE (3641M, 12KM, 4-5 HOURS)

On this day, we head to Ringmo along with the Sanduwa River which later becomes the Phoksumdo Khola. We trek via Palam and enter the Dolpo National Park. From a ridge above the valley, we are rewarded with the first glimpse of Phoksumdo Lake. Descending amid the forest, we climb to the Dolpopa village of Ringmo (3600m). Stay Overnight at the camp near the lake;

DAY 7: FREE DAY AT PHOKSUNDO

Besides the exquisite lake, there is much to explore nearby. We observe the culture of Ringmo village and its monasteries. Many beautiful glaciers can be found near and above the lake area. There are many monasteries (Gompas) and Bon-Po religious sites at the park. Overnight at Ringmo;

DAY 8: TREK TO SALLA GHARI - (3640M) - 5-6 HRS WALK

Today, we enter the restricted area of Upper Dolpo to the Shalla Ghari; we reach there through the route where the epic movie called CARAVAN cast by Eric Valli. This route is said to be used by traders of Dolpo and Tibetans. On the way, we are blessed with beautiful mountains view, Lake, the village of Ringmo and the dark green pine forests. Overnight at Shalla Ghari;

DAY 9: TREK TO LAR TSA - (4120M) 7 HRS WALK

On this day, we leave Salla Ghari and reach for Lar Tsa. We will trek for about 7 hrs, and we will reach a narrow gorge, which is Lar Tsa. Overnight at Lar Tsa;

DAY 10: TREK TO SHEY GOMPA (4370M, 12KM, 7/8 HOURS)

This day is a strenuous day for us because we will be crossing the Kang La pass (5350m). We climb for about 2-3 hours before we reach the pass. From the pass, we descend to the valley and follow the river to Shey Gompa. The old monastery is set dramatically beneath Crystal Mountain. We stay overnight at Shey Gompa;

DAY 11: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

This day our bodies need rest and acclimatization to get used to the altitude. We spend the day going out and about in Shey Gompa. We also visit Tsa Kang monastery, perched on a ledge of a cliff-face. Stay overnight at Shey Gompa;

DAY 12: TREK TO NAMGUNG (4415M, 13KM, 8 HOURS)

On this day, we head east side towards Namgung, on the route we cross the Shey La pass (5100m) from where we can view Tibet in the north and Mustang in the east. From the pass, we descend for a while to reach the pasturelands of Namgung. Overnight at Namgung;

DAY 13: TREK TO SALDANG (4100M, 7KM, 3/4 HOURS)

On this day, we start our trek by passing through Namgung Khola, then we steep descent to the village of Saldang. Saldang is the largest Village in Inner Dolpo. We stay overnight at Saldang;

DAY 14: REST DAY/ SIDE TREK TO KARANG

On this day, we will take a much-deserved rest day after strenuous trekking. On free time we can hike up to beautiful Karang village which is 1-2 hours far from the village of Saldang. Overnight at Saldang;

DAY 15: TREK TO CHOTE GAON (6/7HOURS)

On this day, we depart from Saldang and move towards Chote Gaun. After walking for 6- 7 hours we reach Chote Gaon where we set up camp to stay the night;

DAY 16: TREK TO JENG LA PHEDI (4850M, 15KM, 7/8 HOURS)

Following the river we finally reach Jeng La Phedi where we stay overnight;

DAY 17: TREK TO TOKYU (4160M, 14KM, 6/7 HOURS)

The trail takes a steep climb and takes us to the summit of the Jeng La (5110m). From the Jeng La pass, we are offered with the spectacular vistas of the south to Dhaulagiri. From there we take the down path to the Tarap Valley and follow a stream that brings us to Tokyu Village, Stay overnight at Tokyu;

DAY 18: TREK TO DHO TARAP (3944M), 4-5 HRS

Dho Tarap is a Highlight of this trek. It is a beautiful settlement that portrays the rustic attributes of Dolpo. Dho Tarap situated above a wide valley and was an important trading point to the traders of Tibet and Mustang in the ancient days. On this day, we cross the traditional Tokyu village (4209m) to reach the magnificent village of Dho Tarap. Overnight at Dho Tarap;

DAY 19: TREK TO SIMARA (3755), 6-7 HRS

After the stay at the wonderful place, Dho Tarap and finishing the morning breakfast, we move our feet for Simara. 6-7 hrs continuous walk through the Mirbubane Khola Dovan we reach our today destination. Overnight at Simara;

DAY 20: TREK TO LAINI (3370M), 6-7 HRS

We have our hearty breakfast and head towards Laini. We pass via Nawarpani Dovan (3780m) and Chhyugar (3440m). Laini is a great Campsite which has cascading waterfall nearby. Overnight at Laini;

DAY 21: TREK TO TARAKOT (2440M, 9KM, 5 HOURS)

Today, we head to Tarakot, leaving Kanigaon behind, we cross the latter via a high suspension bridge. We walk high above the river and then descent to Tarakot where we stay overnight. Tarakot has Gompa where we can visit at day;

DAY 22: TREK TO DUNAI (2090M, 16KM, 6 HOURS)

On this day, we complete our circuit following the Barbung Khola to Dunai (2090m). Dunai has a couple of small lodges that allow us to stay overnight. Overnight at Dunai;

DAY 23: TREK TO JUPHAL (2480M, 11KM, 4/5 HOURS)

We take a walk beside the Bheri River and the last climb to reach the Jhupal (2480m). Overnight at Juphal;

DAY 24: JUPHAL TO KATHMANDU

From Juphal we travel to Nepalgunj by air followed by a drive to Kathmandu. Stay Overnight at Kathmandu;

DAY 25: KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING

We go out of our way for the satisfaction of our clients and therefore, as per your preference, we leave this day for you to do what you desire. We will then make necessary arrangement for the things that you prefer to do such as shop the souvenirs, herbal massage to relieve the pain, join the evening worship in Pashupatinath or may be exploring the city more.

DAY 26: DEPARTURE

Depending on your flight time you will be transferred to the airport. The airport check-in is 3 hours prior to the departure time, and the hotel checkout time is usually 12 PM. Our representative will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport.
